Senior Engineering Geologist
Our client is currently seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist with at least 12 years post graduate geotechnical experience to join their team in West Devon. The candidate should be a good communicator, able to produce work to a high standard and be technically competent in engineering geology and geotechnics.
They will have a BSc or equivalent in Geology or Engineering Geology and preferably a Masters Degree in Geotechnics or Soil Mechanics. They should be Chartered with a professional organisation such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining or the Geological Society of London, with at least 6 years of post-chartership experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a wide range of field and office-based work including;
preparation of geotechnical desk studies, walkover inspections and the development of conceptual ground models
geomorphological and geological mapping
assessment of landslips and the stability of steep slopes
planning and implementation of ground investigations,
logging of trial pits and borehole samples,
scheduling laboratory geotechnical tests
interpretation of the results of ground investigations
geotechnical design of engineering works such as shallow spread foundations, piles, ground anchorages, soil nails, retaining walls etc.
structural geological interpretation of rock masses and a clear understanding of rock mechanics principals for the engineering design of rock faces, cuttings and quarries
use of various geotechnical software packages (Holebase, RocScience Software Suite etc)
concise and accurate report writing of letter reports and the preparation of Ground Investigation Reports (GIRs) and Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs).
working closely with designers of other disciplines to produce co-ordinated designs taking account the geotechnical conditions.
attending project meetings and communicating with other staff and clients.
working independently and being responsible for checking the quality and accuracy of your own work, while providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the team.
The applicant should be highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced in the field of engineering geology, with an inquisitive mind and the willingness to develop skill sets in other fields beyond your own discipline. They should be able to work under pressure, have good planning, organisational and time management skills and be able to meet strict deadlines. They should be able to communicate ideas concisely through drawing, presentations and in writing. Should hold a valid full UK driving licence.
